Tour Destination
Kandy, the last royal capital of the ancient kings of Sri Lanka, is a UNESCO World Heritage city nestled among forested hills at an elevation of 500 metres. The city is built around the scenic Kandy Lake and is home to the Sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic β one of Buddhism's most venerated sites, drawing pilgrims from across the world.
The Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa) houses a tooth relic of the Lord Buddha and is at the centre of the Esala Perahera β one of Asia's grandest festivals, featuring elaborately decorated elephants, drummers, dancers, and fire performers in a magnificent procession that lights up the night sky.
Beyond its sacred significance, Kandy offers the magnificent Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens (one of Asia's finest), colourful local markets, traditional arts and crafts shops, gem museums, and authentic Kandian dance performances that are a feast for the senses.
