Dambulla, located in the heart of Sri Lanka's Cultural Triangle, is dominated by a massive granite outcrop rising 160 metres above the surrounding plains. At its summit lies the Dambulla Royal Cave Temple — a UNESCO World Heritage Site with five magnificent cave shrines containing over 150 stunning Buddha statues, 3 statues of Sri Lankan kings, and 4 statues of Gods and Goddesses.

The cave temple dates back over 2,000 years and the magnificent frescoes covering 2,100 square metres of cave ceiling represent one of the most impressive displays of ancient Buddhist art in Asia. The complex has been a place of worship and royal patronage since the 1st century BCE when King Valagamba of Anuradhapura took refuge here.

Beyond the cave temple, Dambulla is ideally positioned as a base for exploring the Cultural Triangle — just 30 minutes from Sigiriya Lion Rock, and within easy reach of Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, and Minneriya National Park. The Dambulla economic city also has one of Sri Lanka's largest wholesale vegetable markets.
